I enjoyed it. My boyfriend has this and it scares me to death for him to stop breathing in the middle of sleep. I often find myself shaking him, to wake him so he will breathe again. He says he has this because he has enlarged adenoids. Hopefully he will get his adenoids removed soon.

Very interesting article. I have/had sleep apena pretty much all my life. I'm 36yo and in 2004, I finally decided to have a sleep study and I was given a CPAP machine to help me sleep. Well, I wasn't able to tolerate it and long story short.....I ended up with a trach. I know that sounds pretty drastic but I had no choice. I was not happy about it but I am happy that it cured my sleep apnea!! My plea to anyone with sleep apnea is to get treatment. Hopefully you won't end up with a trach like myself.

I have sleep apnea. you have covered a lot about sleep apnea. There are a few things of interest might include RLS , restless leg syndrome. The settings of the CPAP machine up to 20,and the problem I had with breathing out.or exhalation. With a setting of CPAP at 20,the fitting of full face mask caused blowing in face and eyes. After 2 years of CPAP i was switched to BI-LEVEL machine where breathing out is better, and the setting much lower with the blowing onto my face and eyes now no problem. you might also might include the use of oxygen which fits into the bi level machine.

Sounds good except for one problem. Sleep apnea is not a disease, it is a condition/disorder.

Justin,

First of all I do hav sleep apnea and RLS, I am 61 years old, sleep apnea and RLS disturbed my deep sleep, Also when I was put to sleep in an operation I might not wake up! Now that was the real danger!

Having read many accounts of people trying CPAP devices and giving them up too soon to get use to them, as well as not trying all the various nose pieces and devices that avoid ones whole face from being covered, I wonder about the various sleep labs around the nation and the technicians who help people this CONDITION,

Incidentally some Famous Personallity just died of Sleep Apnea! Cannot remember his name!

The only thing that a person needs to know is that his/her partner who sleeps near recognizes that there is a problem, and that they go to a sleep lab for proper diagnosis. That they do not act like a hard headed fool and blindly try to wish away this thing which is so easily corrected! Which even leads to over weight problems also! It affects ones entire life! I personally feel as though I am 20 years younger!

See I was a hard headed Jerk of a husband who would not pay any attention to what my wife was saying until while sedated in an operation I stopped breathing!

Shortly I ended up in a sleep clinic!

Have a good Day
