A sore throat can be a sign that you snore, but you really do need to know if you snore, and the best way to do that is to sleep with someone. If this is not an option, then lay hands on a voice-activated recording device, set it up in your room at bedtime (but be sure it is set so it will capture sleep sounds), and then listen the next morning. Even if you don’t have anything the first morning, do this at intervals 3 or 4 times.
If you do snore loudly and regularly, listen for periods during snoring or just preceding snoring in which you cease breathing for a few seconds. If you hear this it could be what is called an apneic episode, a moment in which you are not breathing, and this is called sleep apnea. Loud snoring can be caused by a number of factors, apnea being one of them. But in either case, if you discover that you are indeed snoring quite loudly, you need to mention this to your physician. The area of sleep medicine is a rapidly developing field. Medicine is just now beginning to understand the importance of good quality sleep on overall health and the sometimes deadly consequences of poor quality sleep. If you snore loudly and experience daytime sleepiness and/or you actually hear apneic episodes when you tape yourself, it is really important that you seek help for this.
Snoring is always considered comic, but in fact it can be a sign of other conditions that can be treated, and at the very least, it makes you a poor sleep companion, which has at least 1 obvious down side.
Video tape yourself while sleeping….and then send me the tape.
Put a recorder or video camera on for the night.
ask him to tape it
