How can I get my dog to quit snoring?

He is a 11 year old Shi Shuz,he already take 2 shots a month for allergies now for the past few months he has started snoring and it just keeps getting worse.please help

Shih-tzu’s are a brachycephalic dog breed – meaning their face is pushed in. This leads to several things that can all lead to snoring: 1. smaller than normal nostril openings… this causes increased air resistance and more likely to snore 2. elongated soft palate tissue – this is more likely to get in the way while breathing so is more likely to cause snoring. There are 2 other "brachycephalic" problems but they don’t contribute so much to snoring. Have your vet evaluate your dog for both of these 2 things, as both are surgically repairable by an experienced veterinary surgeon.

its a crazy thing – everyone is sitting on the couch and whew!!! what an odor – everyone looks around and says – who farted.
nobody fesses up and then the dog just gets up and goes away.
a sure give away everytime.

I have all snoring dogs in my home sometimes the bendryl liquid for kids helps if it is allergies but if it is too much of a problem take him to the vet to see if it is something that can be corrected surgically like a skin flap or something. Since your dog is so old it is probably just something that developed with age and then there is nothing you can do but move him to another room. Sorry couldn’t be of more help. I know the older my Pugs get the worse the snoring gets. It is so loud.

I have a yellow lab and she really snores!!loud enuff she wakes me and I snore!!!sounds like a man!!but she is totally loved and pampered,I guess she feels completely content and enjoys sleeping!! yu might try giving yur dog a small blanket to get under? seems to work sometimes with this one??
Give him something for allergies. Sandy snores more since she is older. Any that have a pushed in face is likely to snore. But sandy don’t and it is just her health and age.
I don’t think there is a cure to make your dog stop snoring; however both my dogs snore. I noticed that my puppy who snores (just recently found out she has allergies) that there are certain positions that she gets into that makes her snore as to other positions.
When she curls up in ball she will snore as to her laying out in a line. So when she snores like that I try to gentle nudge her and she usually just repositions herself to the line position. As to my older dog when she snores I notice that she snores in mostly any position except the one where she’s curled up like a ball; howver she hates the ball position because of her arthritis so I just allow her to snore freely. (Funny how they’re oppsites).
I don’t know if that works with all snoring dogs, but I just wanted to share my experience with you. Perhaps it works. My boyfriend says it works with me when I snore that he has to make sure I sleep in any position but on my back because that’s the ONLY position I snore in. So who knows. Good Luck.
Maybe on the next trip to the vet, have them check to make sure everything is ok. I’m not a vet, an don’t want to scare you. We had a cat that started breathing loudly even when she was awake. When we took her to the vet, we found out it was a lot more serious. Just keep an eye on you dog and watch for anything else unusual.
