If either is severe you should go to a pulmonologist. If they find there to be reason, they’ll have you go to a sleep lab. Based upon those results, you may need a c-pap machine and a mask, with or without a chin strap. It’s important to treat apnea through a doctor since you can put your heart through a great deal of strain otherwise as well as affect your memory and quality of life and risk life threatening accidents (vehicular or heavy machiner).
I am not sure but I have also hear about removing tonsils/adnoids help and sleeping on your side both. There used to be some type of spray to spray in your throat before bed…I am not sure if it works though. Ask a doc they will have the best solution.
most drs say loose weight, and most of the time that works, ive had my cpap machine for years , and would not sleep without it,im trying to loose weight, so i can get rid of this machine, but everybody must know that sleep apnea is a serious problem, if not treated , you can die in your sleep
There are nasal strips that help with snoring, since it has alot to do with your sinuses, and there are machines that help you breathe better while sleeping. Look into them. Otherwise, try some of the home remedies like sleeping on your side and things liek that, might work for you.
From the simplest solution: Nasal strips that widen the air passage in the nose, like Breathe Rite nasal strips. That MAY help some people and won’t cost much to try.
Sleeping on the side may work for some people.
Yes, heavy people can develop that condition because the flesh at the back of the throat is larger, and looser. Losing weight MAY help, but the fat at that location is almost the last to go.
Surgury is an extreme solution, but removing tissue in the back of the throat will tighten up the parts that rattle and cause the snore.
Sleep apnea is very serioius and potentially life threatening. If the simple solutions do not work, the a doctor will prescribe a CPAP machine. This blow positive air pressure into the person the entire time he is asleep. It sounds inconvenient as hell, but well worth it, beginning with the first night’s deep sleep.
This usually needs to be done long before any weight loss solution has time to work.
